LRT passengers are fuming at being kept in the dark following a service disruption at the Kelana Jaya station here yesterday.

Sections of the station’s roof were blown off following heavy rain and a thunderstorm. However, no injuries were reported.

The incident led to disruptions in service, with the station temporarily closed for servicing.

University student Dillon Khoo, 21, said he had to wait for about 90 minutes at two train stations before arriving at his destination.

He said he waited for 45 minutes at the Lembah Subang station before a train from the direction of Kelana Jaya arrived to take passengers to the Ara Damansara station.

From Ara Damansara, he waited another 45 minutes before he boarded a train to the Putra Heights station.

Khoo said it was frustrating that passengers were not informed of what had happened.

“Passengers at Lembah Subang were informed only about 30 minutes after I got there.

“The staff informed us that the track was facing some problem, but they could have told us this earlier so that we could find alternative routes to our destinations,” he told the New Sunday Times.

Another commuter, Fazli Husain, said there should be fare refund due to the long delay.

Prasarana Malaysia Berhad said parts of the station’s roof were blown off due to the bad weather.

“As the rain was heavy, the Kelana Jaya station was closed for safety reasons, while other stations continued to operate as normal.”

Trains from Gombak to Putra Heights and vice-versa will pass the Kelana Jaya LRT station without stopping.

According to Rapid KL, a delayed rail service of more than 15 minutes entitles commuters to a refund voucher at the discretion of the station manager.
