Student slashed in beach robbery

BUTTERWORT­H: A Form Five student, who was fishing with two friends, was seriously injured when he was slashed during a robbery at Pantai Robina, Teluk Ayer Tawar, here yesterday.

In the 5.45am incident, the victim and his friends, aged 21 and 24, were fishing near a restaurant by the beach when they were approached by two men on a Honda Wave motorcycle.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commission­er Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the assailants stabbed the victim with a sharp object.

“The victim suffered injuries on his fingers, arm and back.

“His friends escaped unhurt,” he said.

Noorzainy said during the incident, the suspects fled with a branded leather bag and a power bank worth RM470.

He said the victim was being treated at the Seberang Jaya Hospital.

“Efforts are underway to track down the two suspects.”
