US steel tariffs steal spotlight

-

MEXICO CITY: Ministers from the United States, Canada and Mexico meet yesterday to wrap up the latest round of North American Free

Trade Agreement (Nafta) talks under the shadow of United States President Donald Trump’s proposed steep tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. Trump was expected to finalise the tariffs — 25 per cent on steel and 10 per cent on aluminium — later in the week. The Mexican and Canadian ministers were likely to press Trump’s envoy on whether their countries would be excluded from the tariffs.
