Accessories from kimono and more

- Nadia Badarudin nadia_badarudin@nst.com.my

QUALITY handmade art is unique and mostly timeless. When it comes to handmade accessories, finely-crafted bags can add some style to your ensemble. And for that uniqueness, go for bags made of unusual materials such as vintage kimono fabrics, seatbelts or obi belts — all crafted by local entrepreneurs. Ethical fashion brand Biji-Biji Design from Kuala Lumpur has collaborated with Japan’s renowned textile manufacturer Nakakoma Orimono and rolled out a collection of upcycled bags from vintage kimono fabrics and seatbelts.

Putrajaya-based Asphodel’s Studio, meanwhile, takes pride in turning used obi belts into fabulous wristlets and clutches. Here are our best picks from their collections.
