Water disruption hinders fire fighters from doing their job

-

PORT KLANG: Water disruptions at several locations in the state since yesterday had hindered the Fire and Rescue Department’s efforts to put out a fire at a class B shop in Jalan Kem yesterday.

In the 10am incident, the 50year-old two-storey building was completely destroyed, with no casualty reported.

Operation commander Nadzari Mazyani said, however, the department was aware of the water disruption and had a back-up plan.

“At first, we found it difficult as Klang was also affected by the disruption, forcing us to get the water supply from the North Port, with two tankers despatched back and forth to the scene.

“However, we were able to put out the fire in 40 minutes with some effort,” he said.

Port Klang Fire and Rescue station chief Juyana @ Azlan Musa said a distress call was received at 10.06am and fire engines from Port Klang, Kota Raja, Andalas and Kota Anggerik arrived at the location seven minutes later.

“The fire involved a barber shop, video and fishing equipment shop, as well as another two vacant shops.

“The fire did not spread and was under control as the structures were made of stone and wood. (But) due to its old age, we had to be cautious when entering the shop,” he said.
