ASELANGOR-BORN doctor is wowing Netizens after a video of him singing a Dusun song here went viral. Dr Praveen Abraham from Petaling Jaya has become a social media sensation, with users saying how impressed they were with him performing a song in the Sabah language.

The doctor, 36, who works at the Manggatal health clinic, is fluent in Dusun. He said many nonSabahans were hearing the traditional song he sang for the first time.

His performance was captured on video on Jan 27 when he attended a friend’s wedding reception in Kampung Inobong in Penampang.

“I sang Id Pagandadan, originally performed by Fabian William. I wasn’t aware someone was taking a video of me singing.

“I only realised (that the) video had gone viral a week ago. I got a lot of phone calls and text messages from friends and family.”

Although surprised about the video going viral, Dr Praveen is happy that it has received positive feedback from people.

“There are some who said I had only memorised the lyrics. Although I am Indian, I know how to speak the language.”

He said Id Pagandadan, which means “waiting”, was dear to him, as it spoke about his past.

His other favourite Dusun songs are Kosorou Kopo Nangku Doho (Do You Still Remember Me?) by Jestie Alexius and Anawau Ulan (The Moon Is Bright) by Mary Intiang.

Dr Praveen, who graduated from Edinburgh, Scotland, was a former neurologist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital here.

The doctor, who is single, considered Sabah his home after he began serving in the state in 2006.

He loves the state for its natural wonders and friendly people, as well as their languages.

Dr Praveen said he had a foster mother from Kampung Kuyungan in rural Tambunan district, and that he began learning Dusun in 2011.
