PM: Youth can have global view with religious focus
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has urged the younger generation to adopt a global mindset without sacrificing religion and culture.
He said the government had formulated policies that benefited youth, which had improved Malaysia’s social mobility.
“We create policies that offer education and jobs to youth. The government has never raised fees at local higher education institutions because we want our children to have access to education.
“About 90 per cent of tuition fees at local universities are subsidised by the government. Youth also have a chance to pursue tertiary education at private universities and colleges.
“The government’s policy has increased social mobility. It is important for youth to have a global mindset, while emphasising religion and culture,” he said at a gathering of 400 university students at a Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) and Siswa programme at Seri Perdana here yesterday.
Najib spoke about his youth and how he coped with cultural differences when he studied in the United Kingdom, as well as how the experience made him stronger.
He said other figures who went through hardship and became successful included Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, Treasury secretarygeneral Tan Sri Dr Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and Permodalan Nasional Bhd group chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar.
