MISC steer clear of MIFA’s threat

- Singh Devinder

Malaysian Indian Sports Council (MISC) distanced themselves from their affiliate Malaysian Indian FA’s (MIFA) threat to withdraw from the Premier League.

MIFA face a fine of RM500,000 by Football Malaysia LLP (FMLLP) for late submission of registration documents but the severity of the punishment prompted their president Datuk T. Mohan to reconsider their participation in the M-League.

However, MISC, an affiliate of the FA of Malaysia (FAM), threw their backing behind FMLLP and supported the move as important in raising the standard of Malaysian football.

“The willingness of MIFA in wanting to withdraw from the Premier League is not right and does not make sense,” said MISC president Datuk R. Subramaniam.

“The statement made by MIFA president Datuk T. Mohan is their own and does not reflect MISC’s stand. We only gave MIFA sanction to compete in the FAM Cup from 2014 to develop football in the country and our community.

“MISC is in no way involved in any decision taken by the administration of MIFA.”

Subramaniam urged MIFA to wait for the completion of the appeal process before taking such a drastic action.

“We view any decision by MIFA to withdraw as solely their’s,” he said.

“We are not taking any sides should FAM or FMLLP want to take action against MIFA.

“The fine can still be appealed and rightly MIFA should make an appeal before taking any drastic action.”

Mohan confirmed on Saturday that MIFA will file an appeal in the coming days and hope to have the fine reduced.
