Phone that’s also a projector
The new Scand.a smartphone has the ability to do video presentation on the go, writes Nur Zarina Othman
IMAGINE you’re in a meeting and want to show the committee members some photos and video footage. As you are about to start the projector, it breaks down, putting you in a difficult situation. However, you may not be so stressed if you have something handy to project the content onto the wall.
That’s what Scand.a is designed for - a smartphone that doubles as a mini projector.
Yes, you read right: this phone is also a mini projector that can produce a HD (720p) projection up 200 inch, enough for a small presentation and content-sharing purpose.
This means you can share whatever content you have in your phone, such as photos, videos, files, etc, with others by projecting them on the wall.
FIRST LOOK
With a 5.5-inch screen, the Scand.a phone is decent-sized. But with its built-in projector, it is slightly bulkier than other phones of a similar screen size.
It feels solid in the hand and you’ll still feel comfortable even if you place it in your pocket.
The phone has a metalic body finishing and will certainly attract attention.
There is a fingerprint sensor on the home button and the back boasts Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
This Android phone features a full high-definition IPS touch-screen powered by a powerful eight-core 1.5Ghz processor.
It has a dual SIM card slot and a German Osram LED light source has a lifespan of 20,000 hours.
With its projector capability, the phone will appeal to business people and those who love to share things such as photos and videos at gatherings and meetings.
GOOD PROJECTION
If you think that the built-in projector may not give quality projection, you’ll change your mind after using this phone.
Its 80 lumens HD projection produces good quality and sharp display of videos and photos. The projector is located on the top part of the phone together with the infrared laser and headphone jack.
To get the best result, just make sure you dim the environment and, if possible, project onto a flat white surface for good results.
I projected some images and viewed some videos on my home wall and ceiling and the results were satisfying.
Just imagine: when sharing photos with friends, I could just project the content onto a wall. That would be just awesome!
As we store almost everything in our mobile phones, including work-related stuff, sharing all these with clients and bosses over meetings has never been easier.
Why, it may even replace that heavy laptop which may not always be compatible with the projector.
With Scand.a, all that hassle with wires, power sockets and everything that has to do with setting up a projector is all a thing of the past.
But can a small built-in projector like Scand.a last an hour of presentation? Well, worry not: The device is designed to perform up to six hours of continuous projection with a fully charged battery.
I didn’t use it for six hours but I managed to view a two-hour movie with a lot of battery power left, thanks to its powerful 4500mAh li-ion polymer battery.
On the downside, however, the battery took quite some time to be charged. I later figured out that to make it charge faster just switch off the device.
It resulted in faster charging, but of course, you will not be able to receive messages or calls.
CAMERA
The Scand.a phone has pretty good front and back cameras. Both use Sony lenses and boast 13MP resolution.
The image quality is good and produce wider angle photos.
CONCLUSION
If you’re looking for a phone that can double as a projector, the Scand.a is worth considering.
