New Straits Times - - SPORT - Syafiq Aznan

P. Maniam has been “rested” by the FA of Selangor (FAS) following his team’s poor form of late.

The team have suffered three straight Super League defeats and are eighth in the standings.

FAS vice-president Datuk Abdul Rauf Ahmad said Maniam’s assistant Nazliazmi Mohamad Nasir will handle the team on a caretaker basis.

“We made a collective decision to rest Maniam. Nazliazmi will officially start work as caretaker coach tomorrow (today),” said Abdul Rauf.

Nazliazmi’s first match in charge will be the FA Cup third round encounter against Terengganu tomorrow.

Abdul Rauf said the association have not discussed on whether a new coach should be hired immediately.

“We will evaluate the team under Nazliazmi and see how things go first,” he added.

Meanwhile, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) defeated Singapore’s Tampines Rovers 2-1 in an AFC Cup Group H match at the Larkin Stadium yesterday.

Safawi Rasid (13th minute) and Ahmad Hazwan Bakri (79th) netted for JDT while Khairul Amri (45th) replied for Tampines.
