Peng Soon-Liu Ying eyeing final again
Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying believe they can reach the All England mixed doubles final for the second straight time in Birmingham.
Yesterday, Peng Soon-Liu Ying, who lost the final last year, bounced back from a first game blemish to edge Ireland’s Sam Magee-Chloe Magee 18-21, 2422, 21-15 in their first round match.
“In the first game, our opponents played very well while we were uncomfortable. We then changed our strategy and it worked well in the second game.
“We played to our strength in the deciding game to seal victory,” said Peng Soon yesterday.
Peng Soon-Liu Ying, the silver medallists at the 2016 Rio Olympics, will likely face eighth seeds Zhang Nan-Li Yinhui in the second round today.
Zhang Nan-Li Yinhui were involved in a late first round match against France’s Ronan Labar-Audrey Fontaine.
“We had a shaky start today but we are not too worried about it. We will now prepare for our second round and hopefully, we will be able to do better,” he added.
Compatriots Tan Kian Meng and Lai Pei Jing were shown the door in the first round. They lost 21-18, 21-11 to Indonesia’s Hafiz Faizal-Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja.
