‘HOW DID INVOKE GET PERSONAL DATA?’

Umno Youth says Invoke’s research methods on GE14 questionable

- FAIRUZ MOHD SHAHAR

UMNO Youth has urged the authorities to investigate Invoke Malaysia (Invoke) for allegedly accessing the personal data and information of millions of Malaysians.

Its social media bureau chairman, Ibdilillah Ishak, said Invoke’s research methods on the 14th General Election (GE14) were doubtful as the data acquired might have been obtained without the permission of the owners.

“There are many questions as to how Invoke carried out the survey. Did it obtain the personal data of more than 17 million Malaysians illegally? Does it involve another data breach? Which sources provided the personal data?

“Did Invoke get permission from the Personal Data Protection Department to use these data? If Invoke is involved in data breach, then it is similar to Cambridge Analytica.

“We urge the police and Personal Data Protection Department to conduct an investigation into Invoke and take action against the centre if it is found to have stolen the personal data of Malaysians,” he said after lodging a report at the Putrajaya police headquarters here.

Earlier, Ibdilillah and four Umno Youth members lodged a report with the Personal Data Protection Department at the Communications and Multimedia Ministry.

It was reported that Invoke, a research centre headed by Pandan member of parliament Rafizi Ramli, predicted that Pakatan Harapan might win five states in GE14.

Based on the survey by Invoke, it claimed that Kedah, Perak and Johor would fall into the hands of the opposition, while Selangor and Penang would be retained with a bigger majority.

The survey was conducted by calling millions of Malaysians using its proprietary interactive voice response (IVR) tool via social media and volunteers appointed by Invoke.

Rafizi, who is Invoke director, said Negri Sembilan and Melaka, however, would see hung state assemblies.

According to the survey, he claimed that Barisan Nasional would win Terengganu and Kelantan with almost a clean sweep. BN would also retain Pahang.

He predicted that Pas might lose its stronghold areas in Kelantan.
