Kajang Hospital complex to be ready in 2021

-

KAJANG: Construction of Kajang Hospital’s women and children’s complex is expected to be completed in 2021 at a cost of RM304.5 million, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

He expressed hope that the additional building would ease congestion at the 129-year-old hospital.

Najib, who made a surprise visit to the hospital in 2015 without the knowledge of Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, said he could see the real situation at the hospital then.

“The condition of the building was bad, meaning it had to be renovated.

“I hope work can be expedited,” he said at the groundbreaking of the complex.

The complex will have 272 beds, 14 labour rooms, six surgery rooms, specialist clinics and a daily care centre.

Najib said approval for the upgrading of Kajang Hospital was announced in the 2016 Budget and the project would benefit 1.2 million residents in Hulu Langat and here.

“This is Barisan Nasional’s ‘Kajang Move’ that benefits the people, not only hospital, but also Mass Rapid Transit from Sungai Buloh to Kajang stretching 51km.”

He said the country’s health service was among the best in the world.

He said government hospitals and clinics charged only an estimated RM50 for maternity cost and RM1 for outpatient treatment.

“The ratio of one doctor to 400 patients is expected to be achieved by 2020.”

Present were Dr Subramaniam and Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
