KUALA LUMPUR: A huge crowd swarmed the Dewan Tun Razak of the Putra World Trade Centre yesterday in conjunction with the first day of Barisan Nasional Youth Job Fair 2018.

The two-day fair, organised by Barisan Nasional Youth, features 200 companies governmentlinked companies (GLCs), offering more than 50,000 job opportunities.

Lee Cun Lin, 26, a graphic designer at an automotive company, said he was keen to explore new opportunities in GLCs.

“The presence of so many big companies here has sparked my interest to switch career to become a marketing officer. I am impressed by the vast career opportunities on offer,” said Lee.

Lutfi Hadi Ismail, 34, from Shah Alam, said the response from the public was overwhelming.

“I think that such an event can benefit the youth in kick-starting their career or help young entrepreneurs expand their business. They should organise more of these,” he said.

Muhammad Arif Mohd Halim 24, who has a photography studio, said he was keen to learn more about entrepreneurship opportunities.

“I am keen to expand my photography business. To do so, I need to be well-equipped with photography tools. If I can secure a loan, it would help me to grow my business.”

BN Youth deputy chief Khairul Azwan Harun said the job fair focused on four aspects, which were affordable homes, funding, jobs and skills training.

The fair, he said, was in line with BN’s manifesto to create three million job opportunities in the next five years.

“We aim to increase job opportunities in the high-tech industry and create more high-skilled workers.

“We also plan to produce 10,000 jobs in the social entrepreneurship sector by channelling special funds from GLCs.”

Khairul Azwan said the fair allowed visitors the opportunity to explore sectors that provided not just work opportunities, but also training schemes.

“The BN government will also ensure that 100,000 graduates secure jobs through the 1Malaysia Training Scheme,” he said.

Khairul Azwan said some visitors who came to the job fair last year were shortlisted and employed the next day.
