MCA, GERAKAN EYE 8 SEATS

Parties to contest four parliamentary seats each, says Penang BN chief

BARISAN Nasional component parties Gerakan and MCA will contest eight parliamentary seats in Penang in the 14th General Election (GE14).

State BN chairman Teng Chang Yeow said Gerakan would contest 13 state seats; MCA, 10; and MIC, two.

“Gerakan and MCA will have four parliamentary seats each. We will know about the seats to be contested after BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak announces the candidates list.

“We are prepared with the best candidates. The BN machinery is at an all-time high at the moment,” he said at the Penang Gerakan office yesterday.

On Friday, Penang Umno chief Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Osman announced that the party would contest five parliamentary seats and 15 state seats.

There are 13 parliamentary seats and 40 state seats to be contested in GE14.

Teng slammed Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, whom he claimed was only seeking popularity when announcing the abolishment of the Penang Bridge toll if the opposition wins the election.

“We conducted a research when the prime minister announced efforts to abolish toll for both the Penang Bridge and Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge if BN wins Penang.

“It was to ease the burden of about 20,000 motorcyclists plying both bridges and they are from the low-income group.”

He said Lim should be reminded of the agreement for the undersea tunnel, where the DAP-led state government had approved a 30-year toll concession for the developer.
