FOOTBALL Coaches Association of Malaysia (FCAM) president, B. Sathianathan, foresees no problem for FAM secretarygeneral Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin holding two posts in two different associations.

Hamidin, widely tipped to replace Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim as FAM president, has also been linked with the Olympic Council of Malaysia’s (OCM) deputy president’s post, with selection for both sporting associations scheduled to take place next month.

However, there are certain parties who are of the opinion that the FAM secretary-general should prioritise the FAM president’s post which will definitely need more focus.

For Sathianathan, he believes that Hamidin is more than capable in managing FAM very well, even though there is a possibility that the latter might be chosen as OCM’s deputy president, which is regarded as a post that is not as demanding as the country’s football governing body’s top post.

“The post of OCM deputy president is not full time because involvement in major tournaments and championships does not happen all the time. Only when there is a Sea Games or Asian Games and so on and so forth, only then do things get busy at OCM.

“In fact, the post of OCM deputy president is not a position where he (Hamidin) needs to make decisions as the one who has a lot of duties and responsibilities is the OCM secretarygeneral (Datuk Low Beng Choo).

“It differs from that of the FAM president who needs to make decisions with the association involved in many tournaments and championships annually at various age-group levels, as well as the Malaysia League (M-League), the national team and futsal. So FAM’s top post demands full time attention.

“Whatever it is, the decision is up to Hamidin and he will have to think things very carefully. It’s just that for me, I feel there shouldn’t be any problems in undertaking two roles or positions,” said Sathianathan.

On Thursday, NSTP Sport reported that OCM assistant secretary-general, Datuk Sieh Kok Chi had advised Hamidin not to hold too many posts until it becomes too much of a burden to bear.

Hamidin is almost certain to be become FAM’s next president after 18 of the 20 stakeholders nominated him to fill the void left by Tunku Ismail who resigned on March 25.
