PENANG Barisan Nasional yesterday launched its 14th General Election manifesto, themed “Save Penang: Penang BN Pledges”.

More than 3,000 members of the coalition’s component parties welcomed party leaders, including state BN chairman Teng Chang Yeow, at the launch at The Light Hotel here.

The manifesto outlined six core pledges, with 60 initiatives that would be implemented if BN wrests Penang from the opposition.

In his speech, Teng blasted the opposition’s manifesto, saying it was filled with empty promises aimed at seeking popularity.

“They make promises like there is no tomorrow. Fifty-one promises have been made, but none implemented.

“It is now time for us to save Penang.”

The six core pledges are solving chronic flooding within 3½ years; resolving house ownership problems; solving traffic congestion problems within three years; ensuring economic development; ensuring people’s wellbeing; as well as developing the tourism industry and protecting the state’s heritage.

The manifesto’s initiatives include the implementation of the Penang Flood Mitigation Plan, the building of 65,000 affordable homes and scrapping the controversial undersea tunnel project.
