Opposition has a slim chance of winning, admits Kit Siang

DAP leader says analyses show opposition only has 10pc chance of winning GE14

- MOHAMED FARID NOH

THE DAP leader paints a grim picture, says opposition needs ‘six tsunamis’.

DAP leader Lim Kit Siang admits that the opposition has a slim chance of winning the 14th General Election (GE14). He said analyses, including those by local political analysts, had stated that the loose coalition had only a 10 per cent chance of winning GE14.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, he said a win was only possible if there were “six tsunamis”.

“Yes, it will be difficult for the opposition to win GE14, but it’s not impossible.

“The opposition can win only if there are six tsunamis involving urban areas, rural areas, Sabah, Sarawak, women and youth,” he said.

Lim confirmed that legal expert Professor Dr Abdul Aziz Bari would become a DAP candidate for a state seat in Perak.

He, however, noted that the announcement on Aziz’s candidacy made by DAP’s Tebing Tinggi state seat incumbent, Ong Boon Piow, in Ipoh on Saturday night, breached the party’s disciplinary procedures.

The announcement, he said, should be made by DAP’s senior leadership.

“I confirm that Dr Abdul Aziz will be a DAP candidate for a Perak state seat.

“However, DAP has never and won’t demand the Perak menteri besar seat, as claimed by Umno.

“If the opposition wins in Perak, the MB candidate can be anyone from it, not just DAP,” he said.
