‘BN meets women’s needs’

-

PEKAN: Women are urged to continue backing Barisan Nasional in the 14th General Election (GE14).

This is to ensure the women’s empowerment agenda would continue to be implemented, said the prime minister’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

She said in the nine years of Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s administration, a lot of effort was undertaken to push the agenda in the education, employment and entrepreneur sectors.

“Women had never been sidelined (by BN). For example, in the 2018 Budget, the prime minister announced a RM26 million allocation for entrepreneurial training programmes.”

Under the budget, she said, Najib had set a target for government-linked companies and statutory bodies to have at least a 30 per cent female representation in their board of directors.

“There is tax exemption for women returning to work after a long career break, and maternity leave for those in the private sector was raised from 60 to 90 days. This shows BN’s commitment to empower women in their role as a mother, wife and career- woman.”

Rosmah said this at the opening of the “Empowering Women” seminar and distribution of aid to women non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Pekan yesterday.

Some 800 NGO representatives, Wanita and Puteri Umno members, as well as BN component parties’ Wanita members attended the one-day seminar, which discussed future development plans for women.
