Khaled: We will ensure Muhyiddin loses in Johor

-

JOHOR BARU: Johor Barisan Nasional will pull out all the stops to ensure that opposition leader Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin loses in all the seats he contests in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Johor BN chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said it was the norm in the election process for a party to aim for total defeat of its opponents.

“Anyone can contest the election. Each party wants to ensure its rival’s defeat. The same applies to BN.

“We want to make sure Muhyiddin loses in all the seats he contests.

“That is all. As much as he wants to ensure my defeat, I am also out to ensure his. We will square off soon,” he said after officiating a groundbreaking event for the Johor Affordable Homes programme in Bandar Seri Alam yesterday.

Khaled, who is Johor menteri besar, was commenting on Muhyiddin’s remarks at an event in Gambir, Tangkak, on Saturday night, in which the latter hinted that he might contest the Gambir state seat in GE14.

Muhyiddin, who was Pagoh member of parliament, confirmed that he would contest a parliamentary seat, but did say whether it would be Pagoh.

In the 13th General Election, BN’s Datuk M. Asojan won the Gambir seat with a 310-vote majority by beating three challengers — Pas’ Datuk Dr Mahfodz Mohamed and independents Mohd Zan Abu and Yunus Mustakim.

Khaled, on the speculation that Khaled could contest the Pasir Gudang parliamentary seat and Permas state seat in GE14, said the decision was up to the party leadership.

“I will follow party orders. We should wait for the official announcement, or else it remains mere speculation.

“The prime minister could be announcing it next week. I don’t know the actual date.”
