Khairy wants to stay in Rembau
REMBAU: Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin would prefer to remain in the Rembau parliamentary seat for the 14th General Election (GE14).
He said the matter of his seat for the polls was broached by Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Khairy, who is youth and sports minister, said he had informed Najib that he would like to continue in the seat, which he had held for two terms.
“There were discussions on a different place. I replied that it is up to the BN chairman to decide, and as a party man, I would adhere to any decisions.
“The area is considered a BN stronghold. Look at the development in the area. It has been 10 years since I became an elected representative and there are many more things I want to do.”
He was speaking after launching the People’s Leadership Programme and handing over keys to owners of homes that had been rehabilitated.
Khairy said he was confident that BN would receive the people’s mandate to form the next government as it had qualified candidates.
“I urge voters not to make decisions based on emotion as you might lose out on development.”
In the 12th General Election, Khairy won the Rembau parliamentary seat with a 5,746-vote majority, defeating PKR’s Badrul Hisham Shaharin.
