‘WE’LL RETURN IJOK LAND TO SETTLERS’

This will be a BN goal if it wrests Selangor back from opposition

- NORRASYIDAH ARSHAD

BARISAN Nasional (BN) will return the 404ha of land in Ijok taken from settlers by the Selangor government if it wrests the state back from the opposition.

Former Permatang assemblyman Datuk Sulaiman Razak said this was one of BN’s promises to return the rights of the people, which had been seized by the opposition.

However, he said the land would be given back only to those who were willing to fight for their rights.

“Besides solving the water crisis, this will be one of BN’s main focuses, should we wrest Selangor back from the opposition.

“That land is worth RM750 million. What right does the state government have to seize it from the settlers?”

Sulaiman said this after attending a briefing on the issue for settlers. Present was lawyer Datuk Kamaruddin Ahmad, who was representing some settlers.

Sulaiman said the return of the land would follow procedures, adding that all laws and legal processes would be looked into so that everything was above board.

During the session earlier, he said former Selangor menteri besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim had seized the land from two companies appointed to develop it because he sympathised with the settlers, whom he thought had been given short shrift.

He said Khalid had also wanted the state government to develop the area so that the settlers would get a fair compensation.

“He was disappointed (with the issue). In the near future, we will expose the Ijok land issue in a session, in which Khalid will take part.”
