SUNGAI PETANI: The Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation’s (MDEC) booth at the Gegaria Fest 2018 #KitaOK here, organised by Media Prima Bhd, was a hive of activity, with youth thronging it to learn about its eRezeki and eUsahawan initiatives.

MDEC Corporate Affairs Brand and Communication senior executive, Mohamad Syafiq Azhar, said since participating in the event in Ipoh last month, the feedback it received from young entrepreneurs who wished to expand their business through online platforms was overwhelming.

“We’ve reached our target of helping young entrepreneurs through the event although we only took part in its Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, Seremban and Sungai Petani editions.

“The response from visitors here exceeded our expectation due to Sunday being a working day in Kedah. Many stopped by our booth since morning to register and get more information on our products,” he said.

Syafiq said MDEC’s participation at the vent saw it identify many youth who visited the festival not only for entertainment, but also to gain knowledge, such as on the #YOUCANDUIT campaign, which could help them generate more income.

Syafiq said #YOUCANDUIT was introduced in 2016 to help people generate income through digital platforms.

He said visitors could meet MDEC celebrity icon Erma Fatima and Fizo Omar at its booth, and obtain feedback on ways to utilise digital platforms.

“Our focus is on attracting youth participation as they are familiar with the digital world and electronic gadgets.”
