- Muhamad Mohd Fitrie

A will represent Malaysia at the Grand Final of the Neymar Jr’s five-a-side football tournament in July after defeating their “brothers” Hyperich B in the final of the national qualifying round at Sunway University on Saturday.

Ahmad Marzuqi Azizi was the hero after scoring the all-important decisive goal as both teams were tied 1-1 after normal time.

After two months of preparation, Hyperich A, comprising Ahmad Marzuqi, Abdul Hakim Abd Rahman, K Naavin, S. Devan, Kelvin Raj, A Kisshaen, M. S. Vighneshwaran, saw their efforts and hard work pay off.

“In the final, we went up against our own friends. So we took to the field and played as how we usually do, as the better team would win the match.

“We are very happy because we will be representing the country at the finals in Brazil,” said Abdul Hakim.

“We cannot deny that despite going up against opponents who we know well and are our friends, we were still nervous. We played our game as usual and it turned out well for us,” said Ahmad Marzuqi.

A total of 16 teams featured in the final qualifying round after four preliminary rounds in Johor and Kuala Lumpur last month.

The five-a-side football competition involves players between the ages of 18-25.

The Neymar Jr’s Five is organised in more than 60 countries with the victors from each country qualifying for the Grand Final in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
