‘SYABAS’ TO NATIONAL CONTINGENT
Tunku Imran proud of Malaysian athletes’ achievements at Commonwealth Games
OLYMPIC Council of Malaysia (OCM) president, Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja’afar has expressed his pride and joy on the achievements of the country’s athletes at the Commonwealth Games which closed yesterday.
The Malaysian contingent ended their participation in Gold Coast with seven gold, five silver, and 12 bronze medals, finishing 12th overall in the medals tally.
“We began well in weightlifting with two golds and ended with two g o l d s i n b a dminton,” said Tunku Imran, who also expressed his appreciation for Lee Chong Wei and Vivian Hoo-Chow Mei Kuan’s for their exploits in delivering gold from their respective finals yesterday.
“I am proud of them for winning gold, silver and bronze this time round and I am also happy with the national contingent’s achievement in bringing home seven gold medals.”
For Tunku Imran, even though the Malaysian contingent failed to finish in the top 10, the amount of medals won should be taken into account.
“Just look at the Malaysian contingent’s placing which is just outside the top 10 with 24 medals overall, as this is still a very important achievement,” stressed Tunku Imran.
“I know that there were athletes who showed improvement and there were those who were just unlucky such as our national divers, but then this is sports for you.
“We never know what can happen after this and this is what makes it all the more interesting.
“Now I can retire happily, thanks to such a success.”
