FEDERAL Territory (FT) Barisan Nasional yesterday announced all 13 of its candidates contesting in the 14th General Election (GE14). The announcement was made by its secretary Datuk Rizalman Mokhtar.

Among the familiar faces are FT BN chairman Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor for Putrajaya and Umno Lembah Pantai division chief Datuk Seri Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin for Lembah Pantai.

“Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani will return as the Titiwangsa candidate in the election,” Rizalman said, adding that lawyer Adnan Abu Seman, a fresh face, would be fielded as the BN candidate for the Bandar Tun Razak seat.

Gerakan vice-president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau will contest the Batu seat.

Tengku Adnan described the

line-up as being a team of “village heads”, as they were picked based on choices of the grassroots members and the people.

He said apart from himself, the other 12 candidates had unique strengths and stellar track records to steer the coalition towards victory.

“This team of ‘village heads’ will serve the people.

“Although we are running for urban seats, we want to instil this concept of ‘kampung’ (to form close rapport with everyone within the community).

“We want to be the ears and eyes of the people. We walk our talk. We work for the people not only during election season, unlike the opposition.”

He said the fact that the BN candidates list included three new faces for Bandar Tun Razak, Bukit Bintang and Seputeh did not change the coalition’s chances of winning.

He said the list featured five people who were making a comeback, most notably Tan Sri Zulhasnan Rafique in the Setiawangsa seat.

“The reason why we are fielding Zulhasnan there is because we want to win big in the seat.”

He said the team would be using the hashtag #teamketuakampung for its campaign.

He revealed that MCA had agreed to let Umno contest the Bandar Tun Razak seat, while the former would run for Wangsa Maju.

“The Wangsa Maju seat was loaned to us (Umno) by MCA in the previous election.

“As for Bandar Tun Razak, I thank MCA for allowing Umno to contest the seat, thus increasing our chances of winning.”

He said another seat that was loaned to another BN component party was Segambut.

“Segambut was traditionally held by Gerakan, but will be contested by MyPPP.

“We have a concept of reaching consensus in BN, and we support each other.

“We are unique (compared with the opposition).”

On the FT BN manifesto, Tengku Adnan said it would not draw much from the government’s coffers, but instead use contributions from the private sector.
