Najib: Return mandate to BN for continuity in housing agenda

-

ALOR STAR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has urged the people to return the mandate to the Barisan Nasional government in the 14th General Election (GE14) to ensure continuity in the national housing agenda.

He said BN’s manifesto, launched on April 7, listed housing development as among the 14 main clusters.

Najib, who is BN chairman, said the government had crafted a special phrase for the agenda, which was “to build a home for all, for comfort of future generations”.

“Our grandchildren are the TN50 (Nasional Transformasi 2050) generation.

“This generation reminds us of our responsibility as the government not for one or two years, but for the long term, as far as 30 years ahead.

“As the saying goes, ‘Rome was not built in a day’, our planning is for the long term.

“If we want to transform the country into a great nation, and only BN can achieve this,” he said when launching the Suka Menanti People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Alor Merah here.

The project, involving a total of 500 units, will start in July.

At the launch, Najib offered RM20 million in allocation to develop the capacity of petty traders here if BN wins the parliamentary seat in GE14.

For the Suka Menanti PPR homes, the government is giving RM182,000 in subsidies to buyers and they only need to fork out RM35,000 to purchase the units.

“If we combine the subsidy and home prices, owners will own a property worth RM217,000.”

He said the government had built 85,198 units of PPR homes involving 125 projects at RM6.18 billion in cost nationwide.

He said there were 46 PPR projects under construction involving a cost of RM3.26 billion.

“We may increase (the number of PPR projects)… in Kedah.

“We can even write off the state’s debts (to the federal government).

“We want to help Kedah. No need to seek help from others, I can help.”

Najib said in Kedah, the government had built 3,728 houses at a cost of RM777 million.
