Civil servants thankful for chance to own homes

POKOK SENA: Kedah civil servants regard the 1Malaysia Civil Servant Housing Scheme (PPA1M) Bukit Pinang project in Kampung Padang Tembak here as a blessing.

Alor Star City Council employee Juliana Shuib, 32, said the project, launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday, would fulfil her dream of owning a home.

“I am thankful to the government for bringing the project to people here.”

SMK Kepala Batas principal Asri Mansor, 53, said the best part of the project was that the houses were offered at prices below market value.

“The market price of a terraced house is about RM300,000. We are grateful that the PPA1M homes are cheaper. This project proves that the government takes care of civil servants.”

SMK Dato’ Syed Omar principal Mustaffa Ahmad, 54, praised the government’s RM35,000 subsidy for PPA1M buyers.

“This subsidy is a blessing for civil servants to own a home, especially those with young families.”

The PPA1M project involves three phases of mixed housing schemes with prices ranging from RM173,560 to RM355,360.

The first phase will involve 183 units of double-storey terraced houses. The second phase will consist of four 10-storey apartment blocks with 504 units in total, a two-storey community building with nine shoplots, a cafetaria, kindergarten, multipurpose hall, library and surau.

For the third phase, it will see the construction of 172 units of double-storey terraced houses.
