ABUSINESSMAN and his wife had a close call with death when a strange man fired three shots at the vehicle they were travelling in near a shopping centre, here on Saturday.

State police chief Datuk Noor Azam Jamaludin said the 46year-old man and his wife, in her 40s, were in their BMW car heading from Rantau to Seremban when the 6.30pm incident occurred.

He said when the couple stopped at a traffic light junction, a man on a motorcycle pulled up near their car and fired three shots at them.

“The gunman, who is believed to be in his 20s, was wearing a black jacket and stopped on the left side of the vehicle. The victims noticed that he had a pistol in his hand. He fired three times then sped off into heavy traffic. It was raining heavily at that time.”

Noor Azam said the victims then went to the Seremban police headquarters to lodge a report.

“The businessman is the owner of a company which imports prime movers of lorries, and since 2009, a network of other companies.

“He said he did not have any business problems or know of rivalries.”

Noor Azam said the man’s wife had said her husband was wellliked. He was involved in charitable work and was frequently donating to those less fortunate.

“We are still investigating the case and looking at all angles. We will ascertain the motive behind the attack and see whether it was business rivalry if there was any other motive.”
