Wan Azizah in 5-way battle in Pandan

-

AMPANG: It will be a crowded affair in Pandan after five individuals, including PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, were confirmed as candidates yesterday.

The announcement was made by returning officer Hasrolnizam Shaari at the Majlis Perbandaran Ampang Jaya (MPAJ) hall here.

Dr Wan Azizah, who is the Permatang Pauh incumbent, will face off against Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Leong Kok Wee from MCA, Selangor Pas Youth information chief Mohamed Sukri Omar, Jenice Lee from Parti Rakyat Malaysia and independent candidate Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz.

“The Election Commission has received all five nomination papers to contest the Pandan parliamentary seat,” said Hasrolnizam.

The Pandan seat was previously held by PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli, who won the seat with a 26,000-vote majority against BN’s Lim Chin Yee.

Rafizi will not be defending the seat after being sentenced to 30 months’ jail in February for exposing the bank account details related to the National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd and its chairman, Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail.

For the state seats under Pandan, the Teratai seat will see a four-cornered fight involving Ben Liew Pok Boon (BN), Brian Lai Wai Chong (PKR), Mohd Imran Abdul Wahab (Pas) and Jenice Lee (PRM).

The Pandan Indah state seat, previously known as Chempaka before the re-delineation process, will see a three-cornered fight among Mohd Haniff Roslan from BN, Izham Hashim from PKR and Iskandar Abdul Samad from Pas.

“EC has received four nomination papers for the Teratai state seat and three for the Pandan Indah state seat. No nominations were rejected,” Hasrolnizam said.
