Umno, MCA resolve seats’ issue

-

PUTRAJAYA: The issues involving Barisan Nasional (BN) in Wangsa Maju and Bandar Tun Razak following dissatisfaction among component parties on the candidate selection in the 14th General Election (GE14) is resolved.

BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said Umno and MCA had reconciled after both parties were said to have disagreements.

“Umno and MCA in Wangsa Maju and Bandar Tun Razak are okay now. I am confident that BN can take over both seats from the opposition,” he said after submitting his nomination forms at Precinct 9 Multipurpose Hall here yesterday.

On Thursday, Tengku Adnan said the BN machinery in Wangsa Maju had been taken over by Umno and BN Federal Territories after the leadership in the area failed to cooperate in the GE14 preparation.

The decision was made through a letter which Tengku Adnan sent to Wangsa Maju Umno chief Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Shafei Abdullah dated April 24. Tengku Adnan had received reports that Umno members wanted to sabotage MCA and its candidate who was selected to contest in the area.

Shafei, however, on Friday said he would lead the party’s machinery in Wangsa Maju after receiving the letter.

Tengku Adnan said he had yet to receive reports regarding Umno and BN members who wanted to contest as independent candidates in GE14.

“They are party members and they know they should support BN to gain victory in GE14.”
