THE Pekan parliamentary seat will see a fourcornered fight in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is also prime minister, will defend the seat against Athiatudin Daud (Pas), Mohamad Zahid Md Arip (PKR) and Datuk Paduka Abd Kadir Sainuddin, who is an independent candidate.

This was announced by Pekan Election Commission returning officer Mohd Yusli Ibrahim Mohd Yunus at Padang Arena Mahkota here yesterday.

Having held the Pekan seat since 1976, Najib won the seat with a 35,613-vote majority in a straight fight with PKR’s Mohd Fariz Abd Talib in the 13th General Election (GE13).

Meanwhile, Yusli also confirmed that all four state seats — Pulau Manis, Peramu Jaya, Bebar and Chini — in the Pekan parliamentary constituency, will see three-cornered fights in GE14.

The Pulau Manis state seat sees incumbent Datuk Khairuddin Mahmod of BN, Pas’ Zainuddin Noh and PKR’s Abu Bakar Lebai Sudin vying.

The Peramu Jaya state seat sees a three-way battle between incumbent Sh Mohmed Puzi Sh Ali of BN, PKR’s Salim Abdul Majid and Pas’ Abu Kassim Manaf.

The Bebar state seat will see incumbent Mohd Fakhruddin Mohd Ariff of BN, Pas’ Mohd Nazhar Othman and PKR’s Afif Syairol Abdul Rahim fight it out.

The Chini state seat will also involve three candidates — BN’s Abu Bakar Harun, who is the incumbent, Pas’ Mohd Fadhil Noor Abdul Karim and PKR’s Mohamad Razali Ithnain.
