3 hopefuls to battle it out for PD
PORT DICKSON: The Port Dickson parliamentary seat will see a three-cornered fight in the 14th General Election (GE14).
BN candidate Datuk V.S. Mogan, who takes on Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah (PKR) and Mahfuz Roslan (Pas), expressed confidence of recapturing the seat, which has been held by the opposition for two terms.
The competition would be more intriguing because PKR changed its candidate to Danyal at the 11th hour.
In the Linggi seat, Datuk Abdul Rahman Mohd Redza (BN) faces Noor Mohammad Rizal Ishak (Pas) and Rusli Abdullah (PKR).
It will also be a three-cornered fight for the Sri Tanjung seat. BN’s R. Thinalan will take on M. Ravi Manusamy (PKR) and Kamarol Ridzuan Mohd Zain (Pas).
Thinalan, who is also the eldest son of former MIC secretary-general and Port Dickson (now Sri Tanjung) constituency representative Datuk T. Rajagopalu, said he would try his best to win and serve the people.
Three other seats under the Port Dickson parliamentary constituency will see straight fights.
Datuk Seri Lim Chin Fui (BN) is up against Yek Diew Ching (PKR) in Chuah; Yeong Kun You (BN) and Choo Ken Hwa (PKR) will battle it out for Lukut; and, Datuk Tun Hairudin Abu Bakar (BN) and Mohamad Ibrahim Khan Amanula Khan (PKR) will square off in Bagan Pinang.
Tun Hairudin, the incumbent for Bagan Pinang, said support from people in the area had been positive and he was confident that BN would retain the seat.
“Under BN, the people in Bagan Pinang area have been enjoying various facilities and services. More developments are also in the pipeline if BN wins again.”
The official announcement was made by Election Commission (EC) returning officer for P132 Port Dickson, Khairy Maamor, at 11.30am.
Port Dickson police chief Superintendent Zainudin Ahmad said more than 700 BN supporters and about 300 from the opposition had gathered at the nomination centre since 8.30am.
He said there was no chaos reported and the situation was under control. He added that a dedicated team of 185 police personnel were deployed at the centre.
Zainudin also reminded all candidates to apply for campaign permits, which would be approved in 24 hours.
