Huan’s T-shirt a veiled jibe at Guan Eng

-

BUTTERWORTH: A friendly atmosphere prevailed at SJK(C) Kwang Hwa as the four candidates filed their nominations for the Bagan parliamentary seat.

Incumbent Lim Guan Eng will face off against Penang MCA Youth Chief Datuk Michael Lee Beng Seng, Parti Cinta Malaysia vice-president Datuk Huan Cheng Guan and Malaysian United Party’s Koay Xing Boon.

Huan, 57, was seen shaking hands with all his opponents except Lim.

Huan, who had been a vocal critic of the DAP secretary-general, wore a T-shirt with the words “Bungalow & Terowong” (Bungalow and Tunnel) underneath a black jacket.

“I can talk to anyone except Lim. I don’t talk to hypocrites,” he said after filing his nomination paper yesterday.

On his chances, Huan said he considered it a moral victory to run against Lim in Bagan, which was considered DAP’s fortress.

BN’s Lee is looking forward to serve the electorate in Bagan.

Lee said many people in Bagan were in the middle to lower class who needed help in terms of job opportunities.

The 37-year-old said if he was elected, he would expand the tourism potential of Bagan to benefit the locals.

He said DAP was too dominant in the Penang government.

“We need a healthy representation from both sides of the political divide,” he said.

The three state seats under Bagan — Sg Puyu, Bagan Jermal and Bagan Dalam — will have five candidates contesting each constituency.
