Late Nik Aziz’s son sacked from Pas

-

KOTA BARU: Pas has sacked Nik Omar Nik Aziz for standing as a PKR candidate in the Chempaka state seat.

Pas secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said the party decided to boot out Nik Omar after consulting its top leadership.

Nik Omar is the son of the late Datuk Seri Nik Aziz Nik Mat, former Kelantan menteri besar and Pas’s spiritual leader.

Takiyuddin said Nik Omar’s decision to contest under the PKR ticket was against the party’s constitution.

“His action goes against what the late Nik Aziz had struggled for in Pas.

“His decision to contest under the PKR ticket, a party in the DAP-led opposition, is unacceptable and has brought shame to his family,” he said, adding that Nik Omar was sacked with immediate effect.

However, he said Pas was not surprised by Nik Omar’s action as there had been rumours he was going to jump ship and contest as a PKR candidate.

“Pas is not concerned about his decision as Nik Omar was a nobody in the party.

“He was only a member.”

Pas’s Ahmad Fathan Mahmood and Barisan Nasional’s Mohamad Fareez Noor Amran will contest the Chempaka state seat.

Nik Omar sprang a surprise at the nomination centre in Pengkalan Chepa yesterday when he turned up to submit his nomination form.

Chempaka was held by Nik Aziz until his death in February 2015, at the age of 84.

Nik Aziz’s fourth son, Nik Abduh, is contesting the Bachok seat as a Pas candidate.

He was moved from the Pasir Mas parliamentary seat to Bachok where he will face BN’s Datuk Awang Adek Hussin, who lost in the 13th General Election.
