Hashim: EC will not comment on Rantau incident

-

PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission (EC) has refused to comment on issues involving a candidate being denied entry into a nomination centre in Rantau.

Its chairman, Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah, said the commission would reserve its comments until it obtained a full report and police had completed their investigations into the case.

“EC is aware that there are objections from those who were not allowed to enter the nomination centre to submit their forms on nomination day in Rantau.

“This was because they did not possess passes issued by EC.

“It is understood that they had lodged a report on this matter.

“It is needless for EC to give any comments until we receive the full report and police have wrapped up their investigations.”

He said it was up to the parties involved to use legal channels to fight their case.

He urged the public not to speculate on the case as it was under investigation.

On Saturday, PKR’s Dr S. Streram, as well as his proposer and seconder, were not allowed to enter a nomination centre to submit their forms to contest the Rantau state seat as they did not have EC passes.

Following this, incumbent Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan won unopposed.
