UMNO SACKING ‘TRAITORS’
Those who stand against the party will face action, says Zahid
UMNO members who seconded or were proposers for party candidates who contested the 14th General Election (GE14) as independents or on opposition tickets will be sacked immediately, said Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.
Zahid, who is deputy prime minister, said several Umno branch-level leaders contested as independents.
“As stated in the Umno constitution, these individuals will be automatically sacked. This applies not only to those who contested, but also to the seconder and proposer. Action will also be taken against party members who sponsored these candidates.”
He was speaking after the launch of 1Amanweek 2018: Combat Crime and War against Drugs here yesterday.
Asked how many members were involved, Zahid said he did not have the figures.
Present were Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun and Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Alwi Ibrahim.
Zahid gave a thumbs up to those who ensured the nomination process on Saturday was smooth.
“Thank you to the IGP and police for ensuring the process was relatively incidentfree.
“There was only one incident that was reported involving the use of a drone, but that is under the jurisdiction of the DCA (Department of Civil Aviation).
“Apart from that, I am satisfied with the nomination process at all 222 centres nationwide.”
Zahid, who is home minister, said he hoped this would continue until polling day on May 9.
“I hope all political parties will respect each other and the rules and control their emotions.”
In Alor Star, MCA disciplinary board chairman Tan Sri Chor Chee Heung said the party sacked 12 members, including seven who contested as opposition or independent candidates.
He said the action was taken under Article 124 (1) of the MCA constitution after the members were found to have contravened the party’s constitution.
He said nine of the members were from Johor, two from Perak and one from Kedah.
He said in Johor, two members filed their nominations as independents, while two others were contesting under DAP.
He said two members in Perak were sacked for standing as Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) candidates, while in Kedah, a member jumped ship to stand as a PKR candidate in the Kulim state seat.
He said five members were sacked for being the proposer, seconder or witness.
“After nomination day, the presidential council wrote to the disciplinary board, to which the names of 12 party members were submitted for violating rules.
“The board held an emergency meeting last night (Saturday) and found conclusive evidence that the individuals had acted in contravention of Article 122.”
Four sacked members in Johor are Ting Chong Chai and Lim Yak Hong, who are contesting as independents in the Puteri Wangsa state seat; Tee Boon Tsong, who is contesting under DAP in the Senai state seat; and, Ng Yak Howe, who is contesting under DAP in the Bentayan state seat.
The other sacked members from Johor are Choon Kai Ling, who was Tee’s proposer; Chew Mui Mui, who was Ng’s seconder; Ng Lee Chu, who was Lim’s proposer; Lam Tau Lai, who was Lim’s witness; and, Thin Meau Guey, who was Ting’s witness.
In Perak, Chin Kwai Leong and Chin Kwai Heng are standing as PSM candidates in the Menglembu and Tronoh state seats, while in Kedah, Yeo Keng Chuan is standing under PKR in Kulim.
Chor said the disciplinary board found that seven members were unhappy they were not chosen as candidates, adding that they should appealed to the party.
