Khairy threatens to sue Rafizi over allegations
SEREMBAN: Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has threatened to take legal action against PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli if the latter does not retract allegations that he made against him and Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
Khairy said allegations that he and Mohamad had colluded with the Election Commission (EC) to bar PKR’s Dr S. Streram from entering the nomination centre at Dewan Sri Rembau to submit his nomination form, were serious and warranted legal action. He said the action of police and EC officers in barring Streram from entering the premises was standard operating procedure, as Dr Streram did not have a candidate’s pass with him.
“I have asked my lawyers to draw up a letter of demand to Rafizi to retract the allegations. If he fails to do so, I will go ahead and file a suit.
“Action under the Anti-Fake News Act may follow, as Umno Youth has lodged a police report against him as well,” he said after a dialogue session in Sena-wang.
Khairy said Rafizi was being irresponsible in playing the race card and asking Indian voters in Rembau to “take revenge” for what had happened.
“What happened yesterday (Saturday) had nothing to do with race... it was just that he (Dr Streram) had no candidate’s pass to enter the nomination centre. (Rafizi’s action of calling on Indian voters to take revenge) is terribly irresponsible,” he said.
However, Khairy said, he was confident that voters in Rembau would not be easily influenced and were still behind him and Mohamad.
