Raja Nong Chik: I’m here every day

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Lembah Pantai Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Seri Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin was back on the campaign trail yesterday, but for him, it felt like he had never left it.

With 10 programmes to attend, he started his day at 8am, when he went to the Pantai Dalam morning market here to greet traders and people there, and distributed BN Manifesto leaflets.

He then visited Masjid Al-Imam Al-Tirmizi in Taman Sri Sentosa to attend a programme on Israk Mikraj.

The former federal territories and urban wellbeing minister was accompanied by his wife, Datin Seri Raja Nafesah, who was mingling with the people and listening to their grouses, especially from the Chinese and Indians.

At a gotong-royong programme in Taman Pasir Permata, Raja Nong Chik said he had never stopped making regular visits to people in the constituency even though he was not its member of parliament.

He said it was almost a routine so that the people were familiar and comfortable with him.

“I am not someone who only appears once every five years.

“I am in Lembah Pantai every day and I serve the people, even though I am no longer a minister.

“Lembah Pantai has been under PKR for two terms and people can assess for themselves.

“There are 18 voting centres in Lembah Pantai and I have visited every one of them, even before election was fixed.

“I dare to fight for the people and dare to help people because BN does not make empty promises. We stand by it. I will attend any programme even if there are only 50 people there.”

Lembah Pantai resident Rokiah Bakar, 61, said it was time for the Lembah Pantai parliamentary seat to return to BN as its former representative had not been easy to reach.

“I have voted five times in the general election and have never met a leader like Raja Nong Chik. He is the son of Lembah Pantai and we do not want anyone else to represent the people here,” she said.

Another resident, Asnah Junid, 58, said in the 10 years Lembah Pantai was under the opposition, there were no programmes conducted for the residents here.

“I am confident that the BN candidate here has a great chance of winning this time because people are very happy with his hospitality.

“Even though he lost in the previous elections, over the past five years, he has been working hard to look after the people.”
