MEDIA PRIMA IS ‘TOPS’ AT RUN & RIDE
Its staff among 8,000 who took part in Putrajaya event
MEDIA Prima Bhd got a thumbs up after it registered the highest number of employees taking part in the Labour Day Run & Ride event in Dataran Putrajaya here yesterday.
The Employees Provident Fund came in second while SME Bank Bhd was next highest.
About 8,000 participants took part in the event held in conjunction with Labour Day tomorrow.
The event, jointly held by the Social Security Organisation (Socso) and Human Resource Ministry, involved four categories — a 20km and 40km bicycle ride and a 5km and 10km run.
Socso chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said the event was aimed at raising awareness of the importance of practising a healthy lifestyle and increasing the productivity of employees.
“According to Socso statistics, many employees have non-communicable diseases, so we organised a health awareness programme.
“It is our responsibility, and this shows that we do not only take action when employees are sick, paralysed or when a death has occurred.
“About 15,000 claims have been made for non-communicable disease cases annually, where half of it involves death, including sudden death, like heart disease. Others include disability till one is unable to work and requires treatment.
“At least, this event will encourage the employees to take part in healthy activities with their spouse, children and family. I hope they will continue this tradition.”
The event was flagged off by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, Human Resources Ministry secretary-general Datuk Dr Mohd Ghazali Abas and Socso chairman Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat.
Present were Media Prima Bhd group managing director Datuk Kamal Khalid, Media Prima Television Networks chief executive officer Johan Ishak, Primeworks Studios chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Izham Omar and Media Prima Radio Network chief executive officer Seelan Paul.
