NAJIB: MAKE WISE CHOICE

Elect party that will make people’s lives better, says PM

- POLIANA RONNIE SIDOM

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday urged the people to make a wise choice at the polls on May 9 and elect the party that will make their lives better in the future.

Najib said people should not favour parties that played with people’s emotions, engaged in slander and had leaders who pursued personal agenda.

“Those are not good criteria because one has to use one’s wisdom to elect a party that can make life better in the future. Support Barisan Nasional, because everyone knows that in an election, we have to evaluate, determine the criteria,” he said.

He was speaking at the opening of SK Kampung Bahagia in Batu Sapi here.

Najib assured Sabahans that the state would continue to be developed if people maintained their trust in BN to administer the government at the state and federal levels.

He said he wanted efforts to reduce the development gap between Peninsular Malaysia, and Sabah and Sarawak to be intensified, something which “a previous leader” failed to do.

He said that was why the Federal Government allocated RM1 billion to improve dilapidated schools in Sabah, as well as build the toll-free Pan-Borneo Highway, which would change Sabah’s landscape in five years’ time.

“When Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman asked for help for these schools, he never dreamed that I would approve RM1 billion.

“I want to ensure all that we want to get rid of the gap between the peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak. Has the leader with a 22year tenure made such a promise?

“That is why we are building the RM16 billion highway. That is the first phase, and there will be second and third phases. Sabah and this region will transform. We have an agenda and we’re not simply making promises. We keep our words.”

Present were Musa and BN candidates Datuk Linda Tsen Thau Lin (Batu Sapi parliamentary seat), Datuk Samsudin Yahya (Sekong state seat) and Lim Kai Ming (Karamunting state seat).

Najib, who is BN chairman, said the opposition leader, who helmed the nation for 22 years, was never concerned about Sabah.

He also did not visit the state to announce goodies to the people here back then, Najib added.

He said the opposition leader instead insulted the people by saying the 1Malaysia People’s Aid was “dedak” (animal feed) or candies for the election.

“That means Sabah was never in his heart or mind, whereas I have frequently visited this state during my nine-year tenure.”

Earlier, Najib received membership forms from 754 Parti Warisan Sabah members from several branches here, who left the opposition to join BN. A total of 146 Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri members also ditched the opposition and another 120 Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku members announced their departure from the party to join BN during the event.
