‘RAFIZI A LIAR, INSTIGATOR FOR TWISTING FACTS ON 1MDB BRIEFINGS’

CEO says he’s having open dialogue sessions nationwide on the company

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli is a liar and instigator for disputing efforts to correct public misconception of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

1MDB chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy was responding to claims by Rafizi yesterday with regard to the open dialogue sessions held by the former to address rumours surrounding the state investment fund.

In a video posted on his Facebook account yesterday, Rafizi accused Arul Kanda of being used by Barisan Nasional in the 14th General Election to hold open dialogue sessions nationwide over 1MDB.

“Arul Kanda is a campaign tool for BN. His denial (of Pakatan’s statements on 1MDB) show the demeanour of a two-faced man on the 1MDB scandal,” Rafizi said.

Arul Kanda said the statement by Rafizi was not true, and it was clear that the latter was being an instigator.

“Rafizi is a liar and an instigator. This was proven when he was charged in court not only in one case, but several others.

“Rafizi admitted that he is a penghasut (instigator).

“He has 14 summonses against him.

“What I’ve been doing is explaining 1MDB’s situation, and we have open discussions for the public to talk to us.

“If the opposition is telling the truth, then I don’t need to tour nationwide to meet the people,” he said when met after the “Bicara Isu-Isu Semasa Negara” programme at Arena Sungai Siput here yesterday.

He said when he went to around 30 locations to speak on 1MDB, not one opposition representative showed up, despite being invited.

“If they’re telling the truth, why hasn’t one from their side attended the open dialogue session? I’ve even gone to opposition areas, such as Shah Alam and Subang Jaya.

“They are welcome to join the discussion. The events are organised by non-governmental organisations. I will visit other opposition-held areas, from Penang to Nibong Tebal and Balik Pulau tomorrow (today).”

At the programme, Arul Kanda said the opposition should stop politicising the 1MDB issue.

He said the investment company was gaining the public’s trust through its rationalisation plan, which had been successful despite the opposition’s negative remarks.

“We’ve been transparent to the public. That is why I have been going around the country, which started weeks before, to make the public understand the company.”

He added that despite attempts made to correct misconceptions of the company, there would be certain parties who would create doubt among the public.
