THREE PLEDGE TO DO THEIR BEST
Rural development, transport and health ministers-designate eager to prove their mettle
NEGERI Sembilan DAP chairman Anthony Loke Siew Fook is surprised about his appointment as transport minister in Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s cabinet.
Loke, who is Seremban member of parliament and also Chennah assemblyman, said the appointment was a big responsibility, especially with regard to the issues of missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 and road safety.
“I would like to thank the party leadership and the prime minister for their trust in appointing me as transport minister.
“I know it is a big responsibility not only for land transport, the Road Transport Department (RTD), the aviation, maritime, ports and so on, but the ministry is also very important to facilitate economic growth.
“I have to look into many issues such as road safety, competitiveness of ports and, of course, a major issue for the ministry which is to continue searching for MH370. I hope during my tenure, we can find some closure with regard to the missing Flight MH370.
“This, I think, is very important not only for family members, but also for the aviation industry.”
In Kuala Lumpur, Health Minister-designate Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said empowering healthcare services, as well as addressing welfare and workload problems faced by medical professionals, would be among the issues tackled by his ministry.
He said issues affecting the ministry under the previous administration, including the implementation of non-strategic policies, would be resolved to boost the performance of the healthcare sector.
“I think my appointment is strategic as it is my role in the ministry to improve and empower the healthcare sector in terms of quality and service delivery, involving the public and private sectors.
“We have talented medical professionals, but inappropriate policies have caused problems and added to their work pressure. This issue is well known and I will address it.”
Titiwangsa MP Rina Mohd Harun, who is the rural development minister-designate, pledged to give her best service to the community.
She said although her appointment was unexpected, she would carry out her responsibilities to the best of her abilities.
