New Perak exco sworn in before ruler
KUALA KANGSAR: The new Perak state executive council was sworn in before Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah at Istana Iskandariah here yesterday.
Five of the exco members are from DAP, three from Amanah and two from PKR.
DAP has the largest share in the line-up after winning all 18 of the contested state seats in the election, while Amanah won six state seats and PKR, four.
Parti Peribumi Bersatu Malaysia only won one state seat via its chairman, Ahmad Faizal Azumu (Chenderiang), who was appointed as the state’s 12th menteri besar on May 12.
Tronoh’s Yong Choo Kiong, Tebing Tinggi’s Dr Abdul Aziz Bari, Pasir Pinji’s Howard Lee Chuan How, Pantai Remis’s Wong May Ing and Sungkai’s A. Sivanesan are DAP representatives.
The three representatives from Amanah are party chairman and Manjoi assemblyman Asmuni Awi, deputy chairman, Sungai Rapat’s Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddin and Titi Serong’s Hasnul Zulkarnain Abd Munaim. For PKR, the two standout candidates are two-term assemblyman Tan Kar Hing (Simpang Pulai) and three-term assemblyman Abdul Yunus Jamhari (Kuala Kurau).
Eight representatives were new faces. Nizar was Perak menteri besar in 2008 while Sivanesan was an exco member, also in the same year.
Present at the event was the Sultan’s consort, Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim, Ahmad Faizal and former menteri besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
The portfolio of the representatives will be announced later.
In the 14th General Election, PH managed to gain 29 seats against Barisan Nasional, which received 27 seats while Pas, three seats.
PH formed the Perak state government after gaining a simple majority of 31 seats following the participation of two assemblymen from BN in the ruling coalition.
