‘Ex-PM says in police report his life is at risk’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has told police that his life is at risk and has requested to be placed under witness protection as a result of a probe into 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

The Malay Mail, in its article, said it had sighted a report lodged by Najib at the Sentul police headquarters on Friday.

According to the media outlet, Najib said there was a threat on his life and that of his family, and subsequently asked to be placed under witness protection.

In the report, Najib allegedly said the threats were not just from within the country but also abroad.

The Malay Mail, quoted him as saying that police turned up at his residence a day after the 14th General Election, and in the 18 hours, seized items belonging to him and his son, which had nothing to do with 1MDB.

In the report, Najib was quoted as saying that the items seized from police raids at three locations, such as jewellery, and cash were given to him by friends.

The cash, he said, were donations meant for Barisan Nasional’s election campaign.

He was also quoted as saying in the report that police failed to provide him with a list of items that were taken.

Najib allegedly maintained that he played only an advisory role in 1MDB and was not involved in the decision-making process.

The decisions on the deals, he said, were done by the board of directors and the management.

In the police report, he was quoted as saying that RM2.6 billion he received was a donation from the Saudi royal family.
