CM: REPS TO BE MONITORED

Reshuffle not needed now, says Chow

- MOHAMED BASYIR

PENANG’S newly-appointed executive councillors’ performance will be monitored, said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow yesterday.

Chow said a reshuffle was not needed at the moment.

“Let us focus on the current executive councillors. We will listen and monitor their performance,” he said after a walkabout in Lebuh Campbell here yesterday.

He came under fire after he maintained the status quo of the executive councillors’ seat allocation after Pakatan Harapan won the 14th General Election.

There are seven DAP assemblyman and three from PKR, excluding him.

Candidates from Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) were not chosen despite each party having won two seats.

PKR’s Penanti assemblyman Dr Norlela Ariffin said the executive councillors were imbalanced and benefited only one party.

She said DAP, which contested and won all 19 state seats, got the positions of chief minister and deputy chief minister II, and six executive councillor seats.

PKR, which contested and won all 14 state seats, only got the deputy chief minister I’s post and two executive councillor seats.

“If we add PKR, PPBM and PAN’s seats, all three parties contested and won 18 seats, which is almost the same as DAP’s 19,” she said recently.

She said the main portfolios, such as housing, flood mitigation and local government, remained the same and were not shared with other parties.

Penang PKR chairman Datuk Mansor Othman shares the same sentiment.
