‘Move to bar Nik Omar from being imam at mosque is temporary’

-

KOTA BARU: The move to bar Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz, the son of the former Kelantan menteri besar, from being the imam and preacher at Tok Guru Mosque is temporary.

This is until he gets the blessings of his mother, Datin Tuan Sabariah Tuan Ishak.

His brother, Nik Abduh, through his Facebook account, confirmed Nik Omar’s statement, citing the latter had been barred from being an imam at the mosque.

He said the decision was made at a meeting with their families a few days before Ramadan.

He said it (the barring) was temporary until Nik Omar received the blessings of their mother.

“This issue of a mother’s blessings should be an internal matter, but Nik Omar himself had acknowledged through an article that he did not get our mother’s blessings to contest the general election.

“A few weeks after that, he admitted that he had gone against his mother’s blessings.

“It left a huge impact on a mother, who has to bear the embarrassment when meeting people.

“Our mother acted differently after that incident, which we had never seen before, and continues until today… there’s no need for me to elaborate.

“The restriction does not mean the end of our family ties. In fact, they are normal. Every weekend, we will gather with our mother for dinner at her house. Our bond is much closer there.”

He said although it was a small issue, his family who grew up with a religious education background since the time of their forefathers, should respect their mother.

“A mother’s blessing is a huge one compared with a blessing of five or 10 Malaysians. A mother is Allah’s gift to this earth.

“I hope that Muslims will pray for us during this holy month. Insya-Allah, we will receive the prayers every night.”

On Friday, Nik Omar said he was not allowed to become the imam nor was he allowed to preach at the Tok Guru Mosque.

This follows his decision to join Pakatan Harapan in the 14th General Election.

Nik Omar, who failed to defend the Chempaka seat, said it was the “price” he had to pay as his family had opposed his decision to contest under the PH banner.
