Teen fulfils dream to break fast at resort

-

KUALA NERUS: Since he was a boy, Mohamad Roysham Mohd Redzuan has always wondered if he would ever get to dine at the Duyong Marina and Resort.

His family home was just a stone’s throw away from the swanky resort, but his wish seemed far-fetched, as his late father’s meager income as a labourer meant the family’s finances were always tight.

On Friday, the 15-year-old’s wish came true.

Roysham was among 200 underprivileged people who were treated to a buka puasa feast at the resort.

Roysham said he had always wanted to set foot in the resort to see the amazing dishes for buka puasa.

“I always wondered, but our family is poorm so we never got a chance to come here.

“When my father died two years ago, my mother and five siblings eat moderate meals to break fast.

“It’s different this year. Our family has been invited here,” said Roysham, a student at SMK Ibrahim Fikri in Seberang Takir.

Roysham’s mother, Rosmaria Mohamed, 37, said she was delighted to see her six children tuck into the various dishes and drinks.

“Nothing makes a mother happier than seeing her children happy.

“We cannot afford to eat here on our own, so an opportunity like this should be used to the fullest.

“Since my husband’s death on April 10, 2016, I’ve been raising the kids on my own,” she said.

The family receives RM450 monthly from the Welfare Department, which they use to buy daily necessities.
