BOON FOR CAR BUYERS

- ARMAN AHMAD

CAR companies have started revising their prices after the announcement of zerorated Goods and Services Tax (GST), and it’s never been a better time to buy as some are offering festive discounts as well.

Managing director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) Erik Winter said Malaysians were in a position to benefit from the current situation.

“This period in time is a windfall for Malaysians, and so I would like to urge those considering our products to grab this opportunity as there is no better time to own a Volkswagen... and we want to be able to provide this during the transition period until the implementation of the SST (Sales and Services Tax).

“We want our customers to benefit from the revised prices and enjoy our ongoing promotions.”

VCPM have announced updated prices for its range of car models, effective June 1.

At the lower end of the scale, Polo prices are going down by RM4,400, from RM76,888 to RM72,488.

At the higher of end, the Golf R will be cheaper by RM17,102, from its old price of RM295,990 to RM278,888. Following the announcement that the GST will be zero rated, Proton has announced vouchers and discounts that will apply to cars sold from now until the new rate comes into effect on June 1.

With immediate effect, all Proton cars sold and registered from now to May 31 will include service vouchers equivalent in value to the difference between the current and new prices of the car.

In addition, a six per cent discount is being offered by Proton Customer Care on periodical maintenance (labour and periodical maintenance parts only) to owners who bring their car in for servicing at authorised service centres.

This service initiative is being offered till May 31.

Customers who serviced their cars on May 16-18 will also receive a six per cent discount on their next scheduled service (with proof of receipt from their previous service).

These offers are in in addition to the “Kosong-kosong” promotion currently in effect. Under this promotion, buyers of the Proton Iriz (Executive and Premium variants), Proton Ertiga (all variants) and Proton Exora (all variants) who sign up for nineyear loans with Hong Leong Bank are eligible for zero per cent financing in the first year of repayment.

Meanwhile, Proton Saga and Proton Persona buyers who finance their purchase with seven-year loans from Proton Commerce get three-month free instalment, subject to terms and conditions.

Meanwhile, Perodua has elected to go the reimbursement route, offering full reimbursements to customers for GST paid on the purchase of new Perodua vehicles, servicing of their vehicles or purchases of parts between May 18 and May 31.

Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Dr Zahari Husin said he hoped customers would take advantage of the offers.

Till June 1, customers will receive an instant six per cent cash rebate for vehicles serviced.

The GST rebate amounts are based on the vehicle’s net selling price without accessories, insurance, and other selling expenses.
