Stop speculating about Najib fleeing, say cops

-

ALOR STAR: Members of the public have been urged not to speculate, put pressure on or exasperate the Royal Malaysian Police with allegations that former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is planning to flee abroad from Langkawi.

State police chief Datuk Zainal Abidin Kasim said the spread of such rumours should not have occurred as it would cause the public to worry and create unnecessary anxiety.

He said police were aware of Najib’s arrival on the island with his family members for a holiday.

“He (Najib) came to Langkawi just for a holiday with his family and met former Kedah menteri besar (Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah) and other leaders.

“It’s just a regular visit and not a meeting. He has been playing golf on the island for two days,” he told the New Straits Times Press yesterday.

Zainal said a former security officer of the former prime minister was with him in Langkawi.

Rumours went viral that Najib and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, were planning to flee the country.

The rumours began spreading after a Facebook account under the name “Huang Ung” urged police to monitor Najib’s movement, claiming that the latter was allegedly seeking to escape abroad.

Huang Ung claimed that Najib would use the sea route at Datai Resort, which is closed for renovation, to flee to Myanmar before heading for China, then proceeding to Kazakhstan, the home country of his daughter’s in-laws.
